Van Helsing is a film in early production and a reboot of the original Van Helsing film starring Hugh Jackman.
While originally announced with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci producing, it ended up in development hell over the failure of the Dark Universe and would end up being revived in 2020 by Universal Pictures and Atomic Monster.
Production[]
In May 2012, Universal Pictures announced a new Van Helsing film was in the works alongside a new Mummy film and would star Tom Cruise in the titular role[1], with Rupert Sanders attached as director in October that year[2]. While Jon Spaihts and Eric Heisserer would later be attached to the project as screenwriters[3], Tom would eventually leave the project for The Mummy (2017) whose failure ended up putting the film into development hell.
Eventually, it was revived in December 2020 as a joint production between Universal and Atomic Monster. Julius Avery is currently attached as director as well as rewriting an original script by Eric Pearson, with James Wan producing.[4]
