Tod Browning is the director of Universal's 1931 "Dracula".

Tod Browning, film director

In the silent era, Browning directed a number of Lon Chaney' films. For MGM Browning directed Chaney in the (now lost film) vampire themed mystery London After Midnight in 1927. He garnered great controversy with the film Freaks for MGM in 1932. In 1935 he re-teamed with Bela Lugosi as a near-Dracula in Mark of the Vampire, a remake of London After Midnight.

In 1949, the Director's Guild of America gave Browning a lifetime membership, a rare honor. Tod Browning died alone at his Malibu home in 1962 of cancer.
